Remove location and EXIF data from photos

Phone photos carry hidden details: where they were taken, when, and on which phone. See what your photos reveal, then get clean copies to share. Your photos are never uploaded.

Your photos are processed on this device and never uploaded. We don't see, store or log your files.

How it works

  1. Tap Choose files and pick one or more JPG, PNG or WebP photos.
  2. Tap Remove metadata.
  3. Read what was found, including the location of a single photo.
  4. Download the clean copies, all of them as a ZIP, or tap Share.

Why remove metadata here

Uploading photos to a website to remove private details defeats the purpose. Here the photos never leave your device. The picture itself is copied byte for byte, so there is no re-compression and no quality loss.

What a photo can reveal

Phone cameras write EXIF data into every photo: GPS coordinates (four decimal places already pin a spot to within about 11 metres), the date and time to the second, the phone or camera model and its settings, and sometimes the editing app. Editors can add more, such as XMP and IPTC blocks with names and captions. Anyone with the original file can read all of it, and the coordinates point to the place, often your home.

What is removed and what stays

Removed: EXIF (location, camera, dates, settings), XMP, IPTC, comments, PNG text chunks, and extra data after the image such as embedded thumbnails or motion-photo video. Kept: the picture, its colour profile and its rotation, so photos don't turn sideways. HEIC photos aren't supported; convert them with HEIC to JPG first, which already leaves the location out.

Which apps already strip it

WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook remove location from photos they publish. Email attachments, cloud-drive links, AirDrop and photos sent "as a file" or "as a document" keep everything, which is when this tool helps.

Frequently asked questions

Will the photo look different or lose quality?

No. Only the hidden data is removed; the image data is copied unchanged.

Can I see the location before removing it?

Yes. For a single photo the result shows the stored coordinates; for several photos it lists what was found across them.

Does it work on iPhone photos?

Yes, for photos shared from Photos as JPG. Original HEIC files need HEIC to JPG first.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser on your own device.
