How the size is reached

The tool tries JPEG qualities from 92 down to 40 and keeps the highest one that fits. If even quality 40 is too big, it makes the image smaller in pixels, keeping its shape, and tries again, because a smaller sharp photo looks better than a blocky full-size one. As a rough guide, a phone photo at good quality needs about 0.1 bytes per pixel: 20 KB fits roughly 400 × 500 pixels, 50 KB about 600 × 800, 100 KB about 1024 × 768 and 200 KB about 1600 × 1000.

Formats and limits

Results are always JPG, because it is the smallest common format for photos and every form accepts it. Transparent areas of PNG and WebP images become white. You can choose any size from 5 KB to 10,000 KB (10 MB).

Frequently asked questions

Will my image lose quality?

Some, since a smaller file holds less detail. The tool always keeps the highest quality that fits your limit, so a larger limit gives a sharper image.

Why did my image get smaller in pixels?

The limit was too tight for its full size even at low quality. Shrinking the pixels keeps the picture clear instead of blocky. The result message tells you when this happened.

Is 1 KB 1,000 or 1,024 bytes?

Sites count it both ways. We aim for 1,000 bytes per KB, so a 50 KB file here is at most 50,000 bytes and also passes a form that counts 1,024 (51,200 bytes).

Are my images uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser on your own device.
