Add or remove VAT

Work out the price with VAT, or find how much VAT is inside a price that already includes it. Pick a country's standard rate or type any rate.

Calculations run on this device. We don't see, store or log the numbers you enter.

How it works

  1. Choose Add VAT or Remove VAT.
  2. Enter the amount.
  3. Pick a country or type the rate, and read the net, VAT and gross amounts.

Why use this calculator

It removes VAT the right way and works for any currency and rate. Nothing you enter leaves your device.

Adding and removing VAT

To add VAT, multiply by 1 + the rate: £100 + 20% VAT = £120. To remove VAT from a price that includes it, divide by 1 + the rate, don't subtract the rate: £120 ÷ 1.2 = £100, so the VAT is £20 (subtracting 20% would wrongly give £96). At Saudi Arabia's 15%, a price of 1,150 SAR including VAT is 1,000 SAR plus 150 SAR VAT.

Standard rates in the presets

UK 20%, Ireland 23%, United Arab Emirates 5%, Saudi Arabia 15%, Egypt 14% and Pakistan 18% (general sales tax), checked on 1 October 2026 against each tax authority. Many countries also have reduced and zero rates for food, children's goods or exports, so type the rate that applies when it's not the standard one.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find the VAT in a price that includes VAT?

Choose Remove VAT. At 20% the VAT is one sixth of the price (20 ÷ 120), not 20% of it.

Can I use it for sales tax or GST?

Yes, any percentage tax added to a price works the same way. For India's CGST and SGST split, use the GST calculator.

Are the rates up to date?

They were checked on the date shown at the bottom of this page; you can always type the current rate yourself.

Are my numbers stored?

No. Everything is calculated on your device.
