Calculate the tip and split the bill

Enter the bill, the tip percentage and how many people are paying, and see the tip, the total and each person's share, rounded up if you'd rather not deal with coins.

Calculations run on this device. We don't see, store or log the numbers you enter.

How it works

  1. Enter the bill amount.
  2. Enter the tip percentage (15% is filled in).
  3. Enter the number of people, and tick Round up if you like.

Why use this calculator

It gives each person's share to the cent as you type, and Round up makes the shares easy to pay in cash, putting the difference into the tip.

How much to tip

In the US, 15–20% of the pre-tax bill is usual at sit-down restaurants, 18% or more for good service or large groups. In the UK, 10–12.5% is common and often already added as a service charge, so check the bill. Customs differ by country, so follow local practice. Example: an $80 bill with an 18% tip is $94.40; split between 2 that's $47.20 each, or $48 each rounded up (a $16 tip).

Frequently asked questions

Should I tip on the amount before or after tax?

Etiquette guides usually suggest the pre-tax amount, but many people tip on the total; enter whichever you prefer.

What does Round up do?

It rounds each person's share up to a whole amount; the extra goes to the tip.

Can I split unevenly?

Not here: the bill is split equally. For uneven splits, work out each person's part separately.

Are my numbers stored?

No. Everything is calculated on your device.
