Compare two texts and see the differences

Paste an original and a changed version to see exactly what was added and removed, word by word or line by line. The comparison runs on your device, so drafts and contracts stay private.

Your texts are compared on this device and never uploaded. We don't see, store or log what you paste.

How it works

  1. Paste or type the original text in the first box.
  2. Paste the changed version in the second box.
  3. Choose words or lines, then read the highlighted differences and the counts.

Words or lines

Compare by words for prose, such as an edited paragraph, an essay or a contract clause: a single changed word is marked on its own. Compare by lines for lists, addresses, data and code: a line with any change shows as removed and added. Spaces between words are compared too, so a doubled space shows up, but they aren't counted as words.

How the differences are found

The tool finds the smallest set of additions and removals that turns the first text into the second (the Myers diff algorithm, also used by Git). The parts both texts share at the start and the end are set aside first, so a few edits in a long document are found in a moment. A changed middle part longer than 20,000 words or lines is too slow to compare on a phone; split it into sections.

Private by design

Online diff checkers usually send both texts to a server. Here nothing you paste leaves your browser, which matters for contracts, exam answers, client documents or anything unpublished. It works in any language and script, including Arabic, Urdu, Hindi and Bengali.

Frequently asked questions

What do the colours mean?

Red with a line through it was removed from the original; green and underlined was added in the changed version. Screen readers announce each change as removed or added.

Does it ignore upper and lower case?

No, a change of case counts as a change, so “Contract” and “contract” are different. Paste both texts through the case converter first if you want to ignore case.

Is my text uploaded?

No. The comparison happens in your browser, and nothing you paste is sent anywhere.
