How it works

Sideways photos and EXIF

Phones often save a photo sideways and add a note (the EXIF orientation tag) telling apps to turn it. Some websites and forms ignore that note, so the photo shows up sideways. This tool first applies the note, exactly as your gallery shows the photo, then your turn, and saves the pixels the right way up with no tag left. A 4032 × 3024 photo turned 90° becomes 3024 × 4032; nothing is cropped or resized.

Quality and formats

JPG stays JPG and is saved at high quality (MozJPEG, quality 92), so the change is not visible, though the file size may differ by a few percent. PNG and WebP images without transparency are saved as JPG; images with transparency stay PNG with the transparency kept.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between rotating and flipping?

Rotating turns the whole picture, like turning a printed photo on a table. Flipping mirrors it: a horizontal flip swaps left and right, which is how you undo a mirrored selfie, and a vertical flip swaps top and bottom.

Can I rotate several photos at once?

Yes. Add as many images as you like and they all get the same turn. With more than one, you can download them together as a ZIP.

Why does my photo look fine here but sideways on a website?

The photo is stored sideways with an orientation tag that the website ignores. Run it through this tool with any turn, then turn it back if needed: the saved image is upright without depending on the tag.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser on your own device.
