PDF booklet maker

Arrange a static PDF into one saddle-stitch booklet. Preview the page numbers on each sheet's front and back, choose the binding edge and download landscape spreads ready for a test print.

Your PDF stays on this device. Checking and export run in a browser worker without uploading or logging document contents.

How it works

  1. Choose one static PDF in normal reading order, without forms, annotations or bookmarks.
  2. Choose landscape A4 or Letter paper and the left or right binding edge.
  3. Set the outside margin and center gutter, then check every front-and-back page-number diagram.
  4. Create the booklet PDF. Print one output PDF page per sheet side and test one sheet before printing the full set.

The page order changes when you fold

For an eight-page left-bound booklet, the outer sheet's front shows pages 8 and 1; its back shows 2 and 7. The inner sheet shows 6 and 3 on the front, then 4 and 5 on the back. Right binding swaps the two halves of every spread. The binding setting is independent of the interface language.

Why blank pages appear

One folded sheet holds four booklet pages. Source counts are padded to a multiple of four: five pages need eight positions and three added blanks; seven pages need one blank. Added blanks occupy the end of the logical reading sequence. Every source page appears exactly once. This tool creates one signature; it does not split a thick booklet into separate signatures.

Printing and checking the fold

Output pages are landscape A4 or Letter, already containing two booklet pages per side. Print them at actual size with one PDF page per sheet side; do not apply another booklet or two-up setting. Duplex options differ between printer drivers. Short-edge flipping is common for landscape output, but verify a single double-sided sheet: both halves must be upright, page 1 should become the front cover and the page sequence should read correctly after folding. Follow your printer's instructions for manual duplex.

Supported PDFs

Selectable text and vector shapes remain PDF content. Supported quarter-turn rotations and offset crop boxes are respected, with proportional fitting into each half. Forms, annotations, links, signatures, bookmarks, tagged structure, layers, transparency groups, color profiles, attachments and actions are blocked because they cannot be preserved. Document metadata is not copied. File and page limits vary by device and are shown by the upload flow; split a large document into smaller booklets when needed.

Frequently asked questions

How is a booklet different from two pages per sheet?

Two-up handouts keep the source sequence. A booklet pairs the outside and inside pages so the normal reading sequence appears after folding and binding.

Why are pages added to make a multiple of four?

A folded double-sided sheet has four page positions. Unused final reading positions must stay blank so every original page occupies the correct place.

Which duplex setting should I choose?

Landscape booklets commonly use short-edge flipping, but the setting depends on the printer driver. Print and fold one double-sided sheet to check orientation and cover position before printing all sheets.

Can I make a right-bound booklet?

Yes. Choose Right binding to swap the two halves of each front and back spread. The setting works in every interface language.

Are scanned PDFs made searchable?

No. Scans remain images and existing selectable text remains PDF text. This tool does not perform OCR.
