Find a healthy weight for your height

Enter your height to see the weight range that WHO considers healthy for adults, plus two classic ideal-weight formulas for comparison.

Calculations run on this device. We don't see, store or log your measurements or age. This calculator gives estimates for adults and is not medical advice.

How it works

  1. Choose your sex and metric or imperial units.
  2. Enter your height.
  3. Read the healthy weight range and the formula estimates.

How the range is calculated

The healthy range is the weight that gives a BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 at your height: 18.5 × height² to 24.9 × height², height in metres. At 175 cm that is 56.7 to 76.3 kg.

The Devine and Robinson formulas

These older formulas give one number instead of a range and were first made for medicine dosing. Devine (1974): men 50 kg, women 45.5 kg, plus 2.3 kg per inch over 5 feet. Robinson (1983): men 52 kg + 1.9 kg per inch, women 49 kg + 1.7 kg per inch. A 175 cm man gets 70.5 kg (Devine) and 68.9 kg (Robinson). They only apply from 5 feet (152.4 cm).

A range, not a target

Healthy weight depends on muscle, frame, age and health, which no formula sees. For many South Asian adults, WHO suggests risks rise from a BMI of 23, which at 175 cm is 70.4 kg. This is not medical advice; ask a doctor about the right weight for you.

Frequently asked questions

Which result should I use?

The BMI-based range; the formulas are shown for comparison and tend to fall inside it.

Why is there no formula result for my height?

Devine and Robinson are defined for heights of 5 feet (152.4 cm) and up, so shorter heights get the range only.

Is it suitable for children?

No. It is for adults aged 18 and over.
