Flatten the form fields in your PDF

Make a supported filled form non-fillable without redrawing its visible values. This tool keeps existing field appearances and leaves ordinary annotations unchanged. Unsupported forms are refused before download.

Your form and its field values stay on this device. Inspection and export run in your browser without uploading or logging document contents.

How it works

  1. Choose one unencrypted, unsigned PDF with standard AcroForm fields.
  2. Wait while the tool checks the fields, existing appearances and placement.
  3. If the form is supported, select Flatten PDF forms.
  4. Download or share the result and check its visible values before using it.

Existing appearances, not regenerated values

PDF form data and the drawing displayed for a field are separate. This tool embeds each supported existing drawing into the page and removes the fillable widget. It does not regenerate appearances or repair a field that already looks blank or stale. A field shown on two pages has two widgets; both are counted and flattened when supported. Read-only fields can be included too.

A deliberately narrow supported subset

Text, checkbox, radio, dropdown and list fields require visible, printable, resolvable normal appearances and unambiguous ownership in the form and page trees. Pages and widgets must be unrotated, transformed appearance bounds must already match the widget rectangle, and widgets must not overlap one another or other annotations. Tagged forms are blocked because their field references cannot be preserved. XFA forms, signatures, orphan widgets, mismatched states, missing appearances and uncertain placement are blocked. A library error stops the entire export; a partial output is not offered.

Fields and annotations are different

This tool flattens form widgets only. Ordinary links, comments, highlights and other annotations remain as annotations. Flattened content is still normal PDF content that a PDF editor may change. Flattening is not secure redaction, password protection or tamper-proofing, and it does not preserve a digital signature.

File and form limits

Inputs are limited to 80 MB. Phones and low-memory devices allow up to 200 pages and 200 form widgets; larger devices allow up to 500 pages and 1,000 widgets. The form structure is also bounded to prevent excessive nesting. A document without fields gets a no-fields message rather than an unnecessary replacement file.

Frequently asked questions

Will this keep the values I can currently see?

For supported forms, existing field appearance streams are embedded into the page without regenerating their fonts or text. Always inspect the downloaded file. Forms with missing or explicitly stale appearances are refused.

Can it flatten Arabic or Urdu text?

An existing supported appearance can be retained without regenerating text, including foreign-script text. This tool does not create missing appearances or correct a value that the original PDF already displays incorrectly.

Does it also flatten comments and links?

No. Ordinary annotations are retained. Only supported form widgets lose interactivity.

Does flattening prevent editing?

It removes fillable form controls, but the resulting page content can still be changed with a PDF editor. It is not a security boundary.

Is my form uploaded?

No. Inspection and flattening happen in a browser worker on your device.
