Convert AVIF images to PNG

Turn AVIF images into PNG files that every editor opens, with transparent areas kept. The conversion runs on your device, so your images are never uploaded.

Your images are processed on this device and never uploaded. We don't see, store or log your files.

How it works

  1. Tap Choose files and pick one or more AVIF images, or drop them onto the page.
  2. Tap Convert to PNG. Each image is converted on your device.
  3. Download each PNG, all of them as a ZIP, or tap Share.

Why convert AVIF here

Your images are converted by your own browser and never sent to a server. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on how often you use it.

Why AVIF files won't open

AVIF is a newer format that packs photos into small files. Chrome, Edge and Firefox show it, and Safari from iOS 16 and macOS Ventura, but many apps don't: older Photoshop versions, Windows Photos without the AV1 extension, Office documents and a lot of upload forms. Converting gives you a file that opens everywhere.

What you get

Each image becomes a full-size PNG with transparency kept, and no further loss of quality. PNG is made for graphics: a photo saved as PNG can be many times the size of the AVIF, so choose AVIF to JPG for photos you want to share. You can convert up to 20 images at a time on a phone, 50 on a tablet and 100 on a computer.

Frequently asked questions

Will the image lose quality?

Hardly. The AVIF is decoded and saved again as PNG, which adds no loss.

Can I convert animated AVIF?

Only the first frame is converted, as a still PNG.

Which is better, AVIF to JPG or to PNG?

JPG for photos you share or upload; PNG for logos, screenshots and images with transparency.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser on your own device.
