How the age is calculated
Whole years and months are counted first, then the remaining days. Someone born on 15 May 1990 is 36 years, 4 months and 13 days old on 28 September 2026, which is 13,285 days or 1,897 weeks. Leap years are included in the day count.
Useful for forms and deadlines
Many forms ask for age on a specific date, such as a school entry cut-off or an exam deadline. Change the second date to that day: a child born on 1 October 2020 is 5 years old on 30 September 2026 but 6 the next day.
Birthdays on 29 February
In years without 29 February, the birthday countdown uses 28 February. Some countries legally count 1 March instead, so check local rules for legal ages.
