Add text to image

Write a caption anywhere on your photo. Add separate text layers, move each box, choose its style and download a full-resolution PNG with the captions in place.

Your image and captions are processed on this device and never uploaded. We do not see, store or log your files.

How it works

  1. Choose a JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC/HEIF image.
  2. Type a caption. Add another layer when you need independently positioned text.
  3. Drag each box or edit its pixel coordinates, size, alignment, color, background and outline.
  4. Check the preview, use Undo if needed, then choose Save captioned image and download or share the PNG.

Movable layers with keyboard controls

Each caption has its own box in source pixels. Drag the box to move it or its corners to resize it, or use the X, Y, width and height fields. Up to 20 layers and 4000 total text characters are allowed. Undo retains the last 20 edits.

Multiline text and script direction

Explicit line breaks are preserved, and long lines wrap within the box. Arabic and Urdu captions use right-to-left text direction; Hindi and Bengali use their shaped script. The preview and export share the same worker renderer and loaded site fonts or device system fonts. Font availability can vary by device.

Preview and export dimensions

The preview is a bounded thumbnail, while the download retains the original oriented image dimensions. A 2400 × 1600 image produces a 2400 × 1600 PNG. Text outside its box is clipped, so enlarge the box or reduce the font size if a caption is cut off.

Image privacy and supported sizes

Files and caption text remain in the browser. The new PNG removes source metadata, including camera location. Very large images can exceed device limits: 8 million pixels on phones, 16 million on tablets and 24 million on computers.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit two captions separately?

Yes. Add a layer, select it using the layer controls and adjust its text, position and style. Each layer is independent.

Why is some text missing in the preview?

Captions wrap and are clipped at the box boundary. Increase the box height or width, or reduce the font size, until the whole caption fits.

Can I move captions without a mouse?

Yes. Every caption position and box dimension has a labeled number field. Style controls and Undo work with a keyboard.

Is this the same as a watermark tool?

This editor places independent caption layers anywhere in the photo. Add watermark to photo is better for repeatedly marking many images in fixed positions.
