PNG or JPG?

PNG is lossless: every pixel is kept exactly, so small text, lines and flat colours stay crisp with no blur or speckles around them. That makes it the better choice for documents, charts, slides and anything you will edit further. The price is size: a page of text at 150 DPI is typically 100–400 KB as PNG, and a page full of photos can be several MB, often 3–5 times the JPG size. For photo-heavy pages you only want to share, use PDF to JPG instead.

Choosing the resolution

150 DPI turns an A4 page into 1240 × 1754 pixels, sharp on any screen. 300 DPI gives 2480 × 3508 pixels, enough to print at full size or zoom into fine print, with files about four times larger. On phones, very large pages are scaled down to fit the device's memory rather than fail.

Frequently asked questions

Are all pages converted?

Yes. Every page becomes its own PNG, named with its page number. With more than one page you can download them together as a ZIP.

Is the text still selectable?

No. A PNG is a picture of the page. If you need to keep the text, keep the PDF, or copy the text from it before converting.

Can I convert a password-protected PDF?

Not directly. Remove the password first with Unlock PDF, using the password you know, then convert the unlocked file.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser on your own device.
