Compress a PDF to under 2 MB

How it works

Set aside 2,000,000 bytes for the whole bundle

This preset applies a decimal 2 MB cap to the complete PDF, not to each page. A twenty-page document has an average allocation of 100,000 bytes per page before overhead. Cover sheets, embedded fonts and detailed images also consume that budget; no page count guarantees a fit.

Retain originals when preparing a submission

If the file is already under 2,000,000 bytes it is kept unchanged. Otherwise the compressor tests image settings while preserving existing text and vector content. Keep your original separately and compare fine print, diagrams and photographs in the result before submitting a longer bundle.

If a bundle remains above 2 MB

A largely text-based or previously optimized document may not become much smaller. The result identifies outputs that still exceed the cap. Organize PDF can remove pages you do not need, and Split PDF can create smaller parts, but use those options only if the receiving service permits them.

Frequently asked questions

Will I notice any quality loss?

Quality loss is possible whenever embedded images are re-encoded, even with a 2 MB target. Existing text and vector content stay intact, but scanned text and photographs can soften. Inspect the result and retain your original if important details become unclear.

Is 1 MB 1,000 KB or 1,024 KB?

Sites count it both ways. We use 1,000: a "1 MB" file here is at most 1,000,000 bytes, so it also passes a form that counts 1,048,576.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser on your own device.
